FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A 17-year-old Forrest County high school student was killed Tuesday morning on her way to school when her car collided with another vehicle. Coroner Butch Benedict said Cassidy Carter was killed about 7:30 a.m. when she collided with another vehicle on Elks Lake Rd.
Cassidy was a senior at Forrest County Agricultural High School. She was the niece of Hattiesburg attorney Lindsay Carter.
Just 3 days ago, another local resident, 38-year-old Jonathan Daw, died in a one-car accident on Ollie Williams Rd., about 1 1/2 miles away from where Carter was killed. In the wake of these 2 tragic deaths, one resident of Elks Lake Rd. who lives across the street from where Carter was killed says it's time for authorities to look at ways to prevent any similar deaths in the future.
"I'm very concerned and we've been concerned about it, even from the standpoint of the school buses stopping...I believe we need a few speed limit signs," said Mike Slade. "It's always terrible and this was a precious child and condolences go out to their whole family, but this is something we need to address as quick as possible," Slade said.
The cause of the Cassidy Carter accident is still under investigation. The driver of the other car involved in that collision was not seriously hurt.
