LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - An early-morning fire destroyed a Lake Serene home Tuesday.
Firefighters from four Lamar County Volunteer Departments were dispatched at around 2:00 a.m. to the home on the 200 block of Buccaneer Drive. When they arrived the home was engulfed in flames and the roof and walls were already collapsing. It took the firefighters about 45 minutes to get it under control. They were able to contain the fire to the main body of the home saving much of the utility area and car port. But the home was deemed a total loss.
There was one unidentified female sleeping in the home. She awoke and found smoke filling the house and was able to escape unharmed. Central Lamar Fire Chief Reggie Ridgeway says the fire appeared to start in the attic, though the cause is not know.
Firefighters were on the scene until about 6:00 a.m. None were injured fighting the blaze.
