Fire destroys Hattiesburg home, family believes deliberately set

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Fire destroyed a home on 600 block of East 9th Street early Monday morning and family members of the woman who was renting the home believe it was deliberately set and related to the September murder of a Hattiesburg man.

Thirty three year old Marco Harris was shot and killed at around 10:00 p.m. on September 27th in the parking lot of the Chevron station on the 42 bypass. Two men were arrested for the murder including the alleged trigger man.

Alicia Harris, the aunt of the murdered man says friends of the two arrested men started terrorizing her shortly after the murder. She said on a number of occasions she had things thrown through her windows. She got afraid and moved in with her sister. While she was staying with her sister the home was broken into twice and all her furniture was stolen. Then she learned Monday morning the home had been destroyed by fire and she believes the same people are involved.

"We want all the violence to stop, all the facebook messages, all the threatening, all the people trying to destroy our property and continue hurting our family," said Latashia Harris, relative of Alicia Harris. "We've gone through a lot."

A Hattiesburg Fire Department spokesperson says the fire is suspicious in nature and they are continuing to investigate.

Metro Crime Stoppers is offering a $1000 reward for information leading to an arrest in fire. Call 601-582-STOP or the Hattiesburg Police Department.
