Dick's Sporting Goods opens in Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A major national retailer has opened its doors in the Hub City, bringing with it new merchandise for consumers and several dozen new jobs for local workers.

Dick's Sporting Goods, based in New York, welcomed customers at its Turtle Creek Mall location Thursday, just 24 hours before an official grand opening Friday morning. The store, which currently has 75 employees, is the company's 4th in Mississippi. Other stores are located in Jackson and D'iberville.

"It's broken down into 1 store manager, 2 sales managers, which are assistants," said Gabriel George, store manager. "We've got 7 departmental leads and then we've got 12 fulltime and then the remainder are part-time positions. And a select few of those are temporary, so we plan on keeping most of them, even after the 4th quarter," George said.

Dick's Sporting Goods has 469 stores in 42 states.
