JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Thanks to a new state mandate Jones County Supervisors are trying to figure out what to do with the mental ill when they are arrested.
Board president Andy Dial said this is another unfunded mandate issued down from the federal and state government.
Dial says the state Department of Mental Health has issued another unfunded mandates that require jails to become certified to hold the mentally ill.
Dial said with the recent budget cuts the money just isn't there for the county to take on this responsibility.
