CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM) - One of South Mississippi's biggest tourist attractions is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The Mississippi Armed Forces Museum at Camp Shelby opened in October of 2001 and Saturday, museum staff and volunteers celebrated with a number of activities.
They included special displays of military vehicles and weapons and the dedication of a new Naval Armed Guard exhibit.
During the last decade, more than 50,000 people have visited the museum.
"Mississippi is a very pro-military type state, we get a lot of visitors from the state, as well as Alabama, Louisiana and all over the country...even foreign visitors," said museum director Chad Daniels. "School groups come in great numbers, too," Daniels said.
Exhibits honoring the Royal Netherlands Military Flying School and a Mississippian killed in the Pearl Harbor attack on Dec. 7, 1941 will be opening in the coming weeks.
