HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Dozens of high school students from across Mississippi gathered at Southern Miss Saturday morning to learn more about attending the nation's military academies. The annual, "Academy Day" was hosted by Congressman Steven Palazzo's office.
It brought together students and representatives of the various academies. The students met in small sessions and one-on-one with those representatives, who spoke about the requirements necessary to be accepted at one of the schools. "I was here at Academy Day 5 years ago and the cadets here really gave me some insight into how the application process works, how the nomination process works," said Cadet 1st Class Michael Audiss, a Petal native who now attends the U.S. Air Force Academy. He was one of the presenters at the event.
"It's very helpful, everything from deadlines and requirements to personal things, what the experience would be like," said Nate Saint, a high school junior from Columbus, Mississippi.
More than 100 students attended the event.
