Old Hattiesburg landmark, has a higher calling

HATTIESBURG,MS (WDAM)-  A Hattiesburg church is expanding its ministry and using a familiar building to do so.

According to Dr. Orlando Burt, pastor of Word of Faith Christian Center he and his church will have another home in the old Broad Acres Theater in Hattiesburg.

Burt says the church purchased the building to serve for additional worship space, educational facility and recreation. Burt says the church also bought land surrounding the old theatre, which he has plans for after the theatre is reconstructed.

Burt says after 12 months the theatre should be converted into a new church. He says he sees great opportunity in the area.

"One of the things that we endeavor to do is to touch that area of Hattiesburg as well. Even though it does not appear to be a high growth area, everything is kind of moving out west. If you actually go up through that area you will find that they are building single family homes, a lot of apartment buildings between that site, and the University of Southern Mississippi. So, there is a lot of potential there for evangelism and outreach," said Pastor Burt.
