HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Just days after Hattiesburg's historic neighborhood district received national recognition, thousands of local residents gathered Saturday afternoon to celebrate art, music and food downtown as part of a Fall Art Walk.
It showcased art galleries, restaurants, gift shops and other types of businesses downtown. In fact, 3 new downtown businesses hosted grand openings during the walk.
The event comes on the heels of an announcement Tuesday that the Hub City's historic neighborhood district has been selected by the American Planning Association as one of 10 sites on its "Great Places America" list.
"We all work hard to do events and make events successful, but when you've spent so many years developing a neighborhood and you have that sort of accolade, it's very, very rewarding for what you do," said Betsy Rowell, executive director of the Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association.
The next art walk is scheduled for mid-December.
