USM artist exhibits his reaction to September 11th

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A Southern Miss professor with the university's study abroad program in France is show casing his work at the school's brand new Cook Library Art Museum.

Terence Netter is an accomplished professional artist and adjunct professor for Southern Miss in central France. Following the September eleventh terrorist attacks, Netter created several pieces that depicted his reaction to that event.

They were first displayed in France for Southern Miss students back in 2002 to coincide with the one year anniversary of the attack and the opening of the university's Abbey program that fall.

Starting this week, six of the pieces in the collection are on display in Hattiesburg for a Pine Belt audience to view and appreciate.

Netter explained, "Somehow through the painting, hoped I could express a deep sympathy and human reaction to this event. And also some hope at the end."

The 9/11 Series is on display in the library's art gallery through November sixth. Admission to the gallery is free of charge.
