Petal couple wins big in ARC Golf Ball Drop

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A Petal couple is $20,000 richer after the ball they purchased in the 7th annual ARC Golf Ball Drop at Canebrake Golf Club was the only one to land in the cup after being dropped from a helicopter.

Doug and Diane Lee bought golf ball #489 for $100 in hopes of winning the prize. In all, 824 golf balls were sold in this years fund raiser, far surpassing last years total. After expenses approximately $55,000 was raised for the Association for the Rights of Citizens with Developmental Disabilities.

For the third straight year Baptist Life Flight donated the helicopter and flight crew.

    Following a school-record 55 wins and run that ended in an 8-7 loss in the NJCAA national championship, Jones County Junior College softball is eager to open the 2018 season on February 3. Coming that close to the school’s first national title serves as motivation enough for the Lady Bobcats. Regardless, expectations are always high for coach Chris Robinson’s teams – JCJC is a combined 105-12 the last two seasons.
