MDOT puts a temporary fix on Hattiesburg traffic congestion
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Driving on Highway 98 and Hardy Street seems like mission impossible these days between ongoing construction and the never ending traffic, and unfortunately, it's going to stay like that for a little bit longer.
MDOT Project Engineer Paul Purvis said construction near Interstate 59 is partially to blame for this but the traffic signals up and down the 98/Hardy Street corridor have to be re-synchronized.
Purvis said, "Drivers should see some improvement near the Westover Drive intersection Monday but you won't see a major change in the flow of traffic until new signals are installed at the Interstate 59 interchange and Westover Drive."
"We will be stuck in this situation until after the first of the year. Once it gets resolved and the signals are installed, we should be able to see a significant change in the traffic movement."
The completion date for the entire project is set for June 2012.
