HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Thousands of visitors to downtown Hattiesburg are enjoying the second day of an annual festival dedicated to celebrating the history of the Mobile St. area of that city. Day 2 of the 6th annual Historic Mobile Street Renaissance Festival featured food, music, arts and crafts and lots of activities for children.
The festival focuses attention on efforts to revitalize the economy of the Mobile St. area.
"I think this area will bring back some of those people and some of those businesses that we had when I was a child growing up," said Donnis Boochie, a food vendor who grew up in Hattiesburg. "It might give somebody some ideas of coming back and building this community back up again," Boochie said.
"Every year it's been growing, it's been getting better and better," said Barbara Ratcliff, a Hattiesburg vendor.
The festival wraps up Sunday with a gospel extravaganza from 3-6 p.m.
