LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - A former Jones County homeless veteran is looking forward to meeting a Hattiesburg war hero who was the subject of a 7-On-Your-Side story earlier this week and presenting him with a special gift which bears his name.
Navy veteran Paul Davis hopes to personally give former Vietnam prisoner of war Col. George Robert Hall a POW-MIA bracelet that he's had for about 3 years. It's engraved with Hall's name and the date on which he was shot down.
Davis found the bracelet in the dirt while he was living under an interstate overpass in Forrest County.
Tuesday night, Davis saw Hall profiled on our newscast and realized what he had found.
"I saw this guy on television that y'all did a story on and I was wondering if that bracelet matched this person," said Davis. "I looked him up in the phone book, called that number, got an answering machine and was so anxious, I called back later that evening and talked to his wife and she said yes, it was him," Davis said.
Millions of bracelets like the one found by Davis were made and worn in the early 1970s, as part of a national campaign to remember all of America's prisoners of war or missing in action in vietnam.
