TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - Tupelo's BancorpSouth Arena could host the Class 1A and 2A state high school basketball tournaments beginning in 2013.
Todd Kelly, director of development and communications with the Mississippi High School Activities Association, tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/od89hD) that the move is part of changes in the state tournament's format being considered by the state's governing body of athletics and activities.
Kelly says one proposal would be to play eight-team, 3-day tournaments in all classifications. The 3A through 6A state tournaments would continue to be played at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson. Another proposal is to play the girls and boys tournaments separate weeks.
