Dozens of sewage drains and manholes are missing in Laurel

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Desperate times are causing people to go to desperate measures.

Laurel police officials said they have seen an increase of stolen city sewage drains and manhole covers.

Authorities said people are removing manhole covers out of the middle of the road and selling them for scrap.

Most of the sewage drains and manhole holes are in areas that are visibly open to the public.

Police are asking scrap yard companies to be on the look out for any storm drains and manholes covers.
