Cunningham visits Thames Elementary

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Kristen Cunningham, host of "Design on the Dime" on HGTV, skyped into 6th grade REACH students at Thames' Elementary School Monday afternoon. This kick-started the Virtual Career Skype Tour at Thames'. Kristen talked to students about her career as an interior designer and answered students' questions regarding the field. The program emphasizes career exploration while also promoting technology to prepare students for the 21st century.

Gifted education teacher Elvira Deyamport says the main goal of the program is to expose the children to different careers in different fields. She also wants to get them interested in thinking about their own careers and planning out what they need to do for their careers.

The Thames' Virtual Career Skype Tour will continue through the rest of the school year. The director of a cancer research lab, a filmmaker, and a local artist are all on the slate to appear on the tour.
