LUMBERTON, MS (WDAM) - A female relative of Lumberton mayor Miriam Holder is in jail facing multiple charges, including assault on a police officer, after she allegedly interfered with police as they were arresting her son for drug posession early Saturday morning.
In custody is Valorie Taylor, 43.
She was arrested around 3 a.m. near the Greentree Apartments in Lumberton. Officers say she assaulted police and tried to conceal evidence as they were in the process of arresting her juvenile son for possession of marijuana.
Nearly a dozen other bystanders were also arrested at the scene for disorderly conduct.
Police say the juvenile is the younger brother of Jamal Taylor, the nephew of Mayor Holder, who was arrested in connection with the recent robbery of a local drug store. Holder has been charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly interfering with that case by demanding police release Taylor.
Police officials have not been able to confirm exactly how Valorie Taylor is related to Holder.
