Hattiesburg protestors plan rally in support of post office

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A public rally will be held September 27 in Hattiesburg in support of the U.S. Postal Service.

The rally will be from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Federal Building in downtown Hattiesburg.

Hattiesburg's mail processing may be moved to Mobile, Ala.

In early September, the USPS estimated a $7 billion shortfall in 2010 and has since contemplated radical cuts including moving centers, layoffs, and eliminating Saturday mail delivery.

"Can you imagine what kind of service that's going to be?" asked Hattiesburg Postal Worker Tim Eaton on Thursday. He added, he feels as though if the postal service moves citizens may abandon the USPS for good.
