HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Excellent care is something every patient expects and all hospitals work to achieve and according to a new accountability measures initiative launched by The Joint Commission, Wesley Medical Center is one of the top performers in the country.
CEO Mike Neuendorf said, "At the end of the day, patients want transparency in the care that is being provided to them. So, we kind of lay our book open and say here's who we are, here's what we can do for you."
The Joint Commission is the leading accreditor for more than 3,000 hospitals nationwide. Wesley is one of 405 hospitals to earn this distinction, which is based on data from specific, evidence based, accountability measures.
"They compile this data on an ongoing basis and based on the results of those metrics related to heart failure, heart attack, pneumonia and surgical care. As they compile the data, they see who is the best and who has more opportunities than others across the country," said Neuendorf.
In order to earn this recognition, a hospital must meet a 95% performance rate on all accountability measures.
"The medical staff, the nurses, technicians, clinicians, everyone that works here at Wesley to provide this care, without them we couldn't receive awards and recognition like this."
Each hospital's accreditation last's for three years, this is the first year for the "Key Quality Measures Distinction", which is based on data from 2010.
