Dixie Attendance Center joins Fuel Up to Play 60 healthy living program

FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Dixie Attendance Center held a pep rally Monday to kick off their Fuel Up to Play 60 health and fitness program.

The Fuel Up to Play 60 is a national program sponsored by the National Football League and National Dairy Council. It is designed to get children involved in making changes in their lives by eating healthy and increasing their physical activity.

The school received nearly $3000 in grant money to help promote the program. They will conduct a variety of activities around a "Got Breakfast" theme including a grab and go breakfast for 7th and 8th graders.

"We know that by eating a healthy breakfast our students perform better in school," said Kay Lawler, Food Service Director, Forrest County Schools. "Their scores are better in school, their attendance is better and we just want to make sure they get fueled up first thing in the morning so that they have plenty of energy for the rest of the day."

To help increase physical activity the school will focus on a walking program and a circuit fitness program.
