Jones County man killed in Saturday night motorcycle accident

GLADE, MS (WDAM) - A Jones County man was killed late Saturday night in a single vehicle motorcycle accident.

The accident happened sometime Saturday night on Township Road. Residents in the area noticed a light shining in the woods near a sharp curve and when they investigated they found a shoe and other items not to far from the motorcycle. Upon further investigation they found 51 year old Jeffrey Douglas Hicks deeper in the woods behind a log. When first responders arrived they found Hicks to be unresponsive. He was later pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Ernest Hollingsworth.

It's not clear what time the accident actually occurred or what caused Hicks to lose control of the bike. A spokesperson for the Jones County Sheriff's Department says that the motorcycle left the road, struck a log and flipped throwing Hicks about 30 feet from where the bike landed.
