USM Softball Completes Staff with Hiring of Grady Moorhead

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Southern Miss has completed its softball staff with the hiring of assistant coach Grady Moorhead, co-head coaches Jon Malgradi and Kirsten Voak announced on Tuesday.
Moorhead comes to Southern Miss after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Mesa Community College where he worked under Malgradi.
In their time together, the Lady Thunderbirds compiled a record of 102-76 including a second place finish in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference in 2011. Their squad won the program's first conference title in 2010 and also hosted the Region 1 tournament.
Moorhead primarily served as the catching coach and in his time at Mesa, all four of his catches graduated on to NCAA programs on softball scholarships. He also helped develop two All-Americans, five All-Conference team members and five All-Region honorees.
"Grady will be a huge asset to the program," said Malgradi. "He brings a wealth of knowledge in the position of catching and also in the short game of slapping. We are very excited and lucky to add such a high caliber coach and great person in Grady Moorhead to the Southern Miss Softball family."
Moorhead will begin his coaching duties immediately. He will be in charge of catchers, left-handed hitters and assist in preparing scouting reports and film analysis.
The Golden Eagles open their Fall schedule with a Oct. 1 doubleheader against cross-town rival William Carey.
