ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - Dr. Theresa Sanchez, a piano and music instructor at Jones County Junior College, has performed several solo concerts during her sixteen years at the school.
However, her performance on September 20th will be her first that specifically captures the sounds of composers Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt and Frederic Chopin. All of them were born between the years of 1809 to 1811.
Theresa Sanchez explained, "And they all knew one another and they are really in the top line of composers of the early romantic period and particularly for piano."
Sanchez said that she selected these composers because they were all great pianists that understood the instrument.
She said their work captured a wide range of moods. It took several months for her to fully absorb the material scheduled for the concert.
"They require memory," said Sanchez. "It just makes us more attuned to the music and it's just an accepted practice. So it requires a lot more mental work as well."
The September twentieth audience will include music students, teachers and community members. Sanchez said anyone who is interested in music and has appreciation for the work it requires is welcome to attend.
She said, "It takes a lot of get up and go, a lot of energy to learn music like this and a lot of alone time. At the piano or whatever instrument they may play. So they do need inspiration, everyone needs inspiration at all levels.
The piano concert is Tuesday, September 20th at seven PM at Jones County Junior College's Fine Arts Auditorium. Admission is free of charge.
