HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - At Kohler Engines in Hattiesburg on Wednesday, a major milestone was celebrated.
The company marked the production of the one millionth V-Twin cylinder engine to roll off the Hattiesburg location's assembly line.
That engine is commonly used in high end riding lawn mowers. Kohler Engines in Hattiesburg first started producing these machines following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Kohler officials explained that was a challenging time for the business because Pine Belt employees were affected by the storm and the company also had to also juggle producing an additional engine.
However after six years and one million engines, the company was in the mood on Wednesday to celebrate this accomplishment. Thomas Cromwell is President of Kohler Engines.
"It's our workforce at the end of the day that really delivers the product that takes care of our customers and so we really try to take these opportunities. When you have a big event like selling a million engines, we see that as a perfect opportunity to really celebrate with the employees, thank them for their hard work, all of their dedication," said Cromwell.
The company employs about 400 Hub City area residents and during peak production times that number can climb to 750 employees.
