Cordarro Law named Conference USA defensive player of the week

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) – Southern Miss senior defensive lineman Cordarro Law was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week in an announcement by the league office on Monday.

Law, from Whitfield, Ala., tallied eight tackles (two solos) including 2.0 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss in Southern Miss' 19-17 victory over Louisiana Tech. The Golden Eagles limited the Bulldogs to just 244 yards of total offense in the contest, including just 68 yards rushing.

Law, who ranks first on the school charts in forced fumbles, registered one more in the contest to give him 11 for his career.  One of his sacks forced Louisiana Tech to settle for a field goal, after the Bulldogs drove inside the red zone late in the third quarter.  With his sack total, Law also moved into fourth place on the career school charts in that category with 20.5 and he had 35.0 tackles for loss in his career.

Houston redshirt senior quarterback Case Keenum was named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman kick returner Robert Kelley earned the league's Special Teams Player of the Week honor.

This week, Southern Miss travels to Marshall to open C-USA play. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m., CT.
