Jones official: Lee likely to be "big thunderstorm"

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -  "A big thunderstorm"...that's what the director of Jones County Emergency Management says Tropical Storm Lee is likely to be, as far as the Pine Belt is concerned. Don McKinnon says Lee will likely bring lots of rain and some moderate winds to our area over the next couple of days, more or less, depending on where the storm decides to go once it makes landfall.

McKinnon updated the public on Lee late Friday afternoon after his office hosted a briefing from the National Weather Service.

"We are looking for a lot of rain to fall up this way," said McKinnon. "We can't discount the fact that we may have some locally heavy storms and showers, so be on your guard. I don't look for a lot of power failures right now, in the current track, but we are going to have additional updates all weekend. If that changes, we'll certainly let people know," said McKinnon.

McKinnon said we can expect to see the greatest amount of wind and rain from the storm on Sunday morning.
