HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Thousands of cardiac deaths happen outside of hospitals which makes it very important for places like Student Health Services at The University of Southern Mississippi to be extra prepared.
Thursday, AAA Ambulance Service donated two automated external defibrillators to the Health Center so staff and students can rest assured Southern Miss has more than enough equipment to save a life.
Student Health Services Director Dr. Virginia Crawford said, " It really helps with the safety of our community, for students, faculty, staff and our visitors on campus. We are so grateful."
AAA CEO Wade Spruill said, "AAA is a community based ambulance service, we are not a private for profit. Our interest is truly to promote better health for our 10 county region, Forrest General Hospitals area of 20 counties and state wide for Mississippi we are committed to it."
Each AED cost $1,500.
