MCDEMA elects new President from Lamar County

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Mississippi Civil Defense Emergency Management Associations newly elected President is a long time emergency responder from Lamar County.

James Smith, who also serves as Lamar County's Emergency Management Director, was elected as president of the association on Aug. 25.

MCDEMA is an organization made up of 250 local and state emergency managers and responders who work closely with MEMA, to provide the best service during emergency situations in the state.

Smith said, "I was nominated to run for President of the association and was elected last week. So, I am looking forward to that challenge and to working with the association in a leadership role."

Smith has played a major role in Lamar County Emergency Management for the last 14 years.
