Stevens gets the nod at quarterback for Bobcats

When JCJC opens it's season, they won't have much experience under center, but they won't be short of talent either. For Jones County Junior College's first game against Mississippi Delta on Thursday, Bobcats Head Coach Eddie Pierce will go with true freshman Ben Stevens as the starter.

Stevens beat out three other freshman for the starting gig, including former South Jones gunslinger Bryant Baucum. Stevens led the offense for the West Jones Mustangs for three straight seasons. Stevens' final two seasons, the Mustangs never suffered a regular season loss.

"He makes really quick decisions, he gets himself out of trouble really well when the protection breaks down, that sort of thing," said Pierce of his new quarterback, "The kids have confidence in him, and he's just done a super job leading out football team all through camp."

The bobcats kick off against Mississippi Delta from Sim Cooley Field at 7:00 pm.
