Oak Grove senior quarterback Steve Swindle leads an offense that has averaged over 43.5 points through the first two games. Swindle commanded a squad that put 52 points on the board in their opener against Sumrall, and 35 on the road at Purvis the following week.
In both games, he's proven he can move the chains either through the air or on the ground. Against Sumrall, his stats didn't jump off the page, as he only completed six passes for 71 yards. However, he ran three times for 53 yards and a couple touchdowns.
Granted, he probably didn't have to throw it much against Sumrall, who is yet to put up a single point this season, but he certainly let it fly the following week at Purvis. The senior completed 16 of 23 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns.
Just as you would expect a senior quarterback to, he gave a lot of credit to the big boys up front that allowed him time to sling it around. "
"You know, I didn't get hit once the other night," said Swindle with a smile. "He's just improved himself in all areas, but the biggest thing I'm proud of him for is he's become a better leader," said Oak Grove head man Nevill Barr, "I think he's become a great team leader."
Swindle and his teammates stand at 2-0, and will get this week to rest. They'll probably need it, because they'll face the high-powered offense of Laurel the following week. If there was an offensive shootout waiting to happen, it will be Oak Grove and Laurel.
