Special education students enjoy Planet Gymnastics

HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - On Tuesday, a group of three and four year olds from Oak Grove had free reign of Hattiesburg's Planet Gymnastics for a few hours.

All of the children are part of Oak Grove Primary School's Pre-Kindergarten special education class. Many of the students in the class are developmentally delayed.

The children were able to play on the gym's equipment free of charge due to owner, Rachel Jussely's desire to give back to the community.

Jussely and special educators explained that gymnastics can also help young people improve their verbal and physical skills.

Tussle said, "You know there are a lot of things here that build motor development and balance. It's not just for gymnastics. It can help their motor skills, it can help their strength and coordination. There is lots of fun stuff. We have the rope swing for the kids to swing on, and the trampoline and we have our big slide."

Improved hand and eye coordination in addition to muscle development are other benefits of gymnastics.
