ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - Jones County fire officials are welcoming some newly-certified volunteer firefighters, while recognizing experienced volunteers who have reached a new level of achievement. At a graduation ceremony Saturday night in Ellisville, dozens of volunteer firefighters received either Firefighter-I or Firefighter-II certification.
Other volunteers were congratulated for completing a medical first responder certification class.
"They're doing this out of the goodness of their heart, to help their fellow citizens," said Dan McKenna, Jones County Fire Coordinator.
"This training has been remodeled, so that it's directly in line with the same training that the career firefighters have to meet," said Steven Bardwell, Instructor Chief at the State Fire Academy.
A total of 45 volunteers received certification.
