A former Southern Miss football player, who has been behind bars for nearly two years for parole violation, is back on the streets, but he still faces sexual battery charges. Chris Buckhalter was released from the state peniteniary this week after serving nearly two years for parole violation.
Buckhalter was arrested in October 2009 by Lamar County on sexual battery charges. It was an arrest which violated his probation on an earlier manslaughter and aggravated assault conviction.
Buckhalter was released from prison in 2008 after serving nearly 10 years in connection with the death of Jason Langley at a Jackson aprtment complex.
During his brief period of freedom, Buckhalter pledged to become an inspiration to younger generations, speaking to churches and organizations about making right choices.
Buckhalter was arrested again in October of 2009 when a mother filed a complaint accusing him of sexually abusing a minor.
Buckhalter has been released on $60,000 bond on that charge and will go to trial October 31st.
