Bryant talks about running against DuPree for Miss. gov.

JACKSON, MS (WDAM) - Republican nominee for governor, Phil Bryant, commented on his new opponent Wednesday.

Bryant said Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree's win as the first black Democratic candidate for governor in Mississippi big accomplishment for the state.

However, Bryant went on to say that from 1870 to 1975 race was a dominant issue in Mississippi politics, but feels it is not anymore. Bryant said he believes the dominant issue is now the economy.

Bryant said his campaign will talk about jobs and education and let the people of Mississippi make the decision on who will be the state's next governor.

Bryant is also optimistic the two campaigns will stay positive and focus on the issues.
