USM student that drowned on the Okatoma identified

COVINGTON CO., MS (WDAM)- A USM student drowned late Tuesday on the Okatoma River in Covington County.

Officials say a group of students were canoeing on the river and stopped at the Seminary falls. The student, who apparently could not swim, was swinging on a rope swing, let go, and never re-surfaced.  The water was reported to be about 15 feet deep at that point.

Authorities identified the victim Emezie Harrison, 19, a sophomore from Ridgeland. He would have started class at Southern Miss Wednesday.
