HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg mayor and gubernatorial hopeful Johnny Dupree cast his vote Tuesday morning in the Democratic run-off between himself and Clarksdale attorney Bill Luckett. The mayor and his wife, Johniece, voted downtown at the Hattiesburg Cultural Center.
In the primary 3 weeks ago, Dupree captured 43-percent of the vote, while Luckett got 39-percent, setting the stage for today's run-off.
Dupree says he'll spend most of the day Tuesday working on city business, rather than campaigning.
"We have done physically, everything that we can possibly do to win this election," said Dupree. "The people who have volunteered to work with us I think have done an exceptional job," he said.
The winner in the run-off will face Republican Phil Bryant in the November general election.
