HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg City Council, Area Development Association, and the Historic Downtown Association have declared Fridays Go Gold Day in the city in support of the Southern Miss football team.
Go Gold is an initiative created by School President Doctor Martha Saunders in 2008 to have faculty, staff, students, alumni, and supporters wear gold on Fridays in support of the team.
City Council President Kim Bradley presented a proclamation to Athletic Director Richard Giannini Monday encouraging residents to join in and show their support by wearing gold.
"We want to partner with USM. They are our partner," said Bradley. "We want to do everything possible to get involvement, to get the people behind the university, to have butts in seats to support our team."
Southern Miss opens their season Saturday, Sept 3 at 9:00 p.m. against Louisiana Tech at the Rock.
