Here is a reminder that the 2nd primary runoff will be this coming Tuesday August 23rd. There will be both state and local party runoffs in many districts. The general election between the nominees from the parties will be November 8th. Recently we ran a story and I did a subsequent Viewpoint editorial about the desire by many for an open primary system in Mississippi and the fact that a lady by the name of Marla Nottingham has started a petition to try and make that happen. One viewer who teaches political science wrote us that this would more accurately be called a mixed party primary. Regardless, what is being called for would allow people to cross party lines to vote for the candidate of their choice rather than having to vote in the Republican or Democrat primary only. We have gotten a number of inquiries about how to get in touch with Marla Nottingham so we contacted her and she will be glad to talk to anyone who wants to talk to her about signing the petition.
Her number is 601-734-6763. and her mailing address, P.O. Box 423, Bogue Chitto, Mississippi 39629. And remember to be sure and vote for the candidate of your choice this coming Tuesday.
I'm Jim Cameron with today's Viewpoint. Write and let us know what's on your mind.
