JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Despite the economy and all the budget cuts in Jones County the school district was able make a huge purchase this school term.
Jones County Superintendent Steve Thrash said the district just brought 50 new school buses at $73,000 a piece.
Thrash said the district made the purchases with 16th section funds and will be of no cost to taxpayers. He said the district currently has more than 170 school buses.
Thrash said it was cheaper to make the purchases on new buses rather than pay for repeat maintenance on older buses.
