First Hattiesburg Veterans Day parade organized

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Organizers of the upcoming first-ever, Veterans Day parade in Hattiesburg are hoping veterans of all ages across the Pine Belt will participate in that event. The Pine Belt Chapter 2 of the Armed Forces Top Enlisted Association, which is putting together the event, is still sending invitations to veterans groups and other organizations, hoping they'll line up on Friday, Nov. 11 to take part.

The parade, which will begin at 9 a.m. at Hattiesburg's Number One fire station, will end at Veterans Park just before the city's annual Veterans Day service.

Special provisions are being made for older veterans so they can be involved.

"We want to get the veterans that are not able to walk or march, we would like to get the numbers of those veterans, so we'll be able to provide transportation for them, so they'll be able to ride through the parade," said Marion Walley, a member of Pine Belt Chapter 2 of the Armed Forces Top Enlisted Association.

To find out more about the parade, you can call Marion Walley at (601) 264-5856, or send an e-mail to www.walleycsm@bellsouth.net.
