Police execute drug raid on three houses in Collins

COLLINS, MS (WDAM) - An 18-month-long undercover sting involving many several state and federal agencies has broken up a major methamphetamine distribution ring in the Pine Belt.

County, state and federal agents executed search warrants on three houses in the city of Collins early Thursday morning. Large amounts of crystal meth in the form of "ice" were discovered. Ice is a highly concentrated version of meth.

Covington County Sheriff Ben Ford said this investigation had been ongoing for over a year.

Authorities arrested five suspects they describes as key players in the distribution ring, two in Collins, two in Mt. Olive, and one in Simpson county.

Authorities identified Seggie Magee of Mt. Olive as the ringleader of the multimillion dollar ring.   Authorities said the ring was responsible for moving 240 pounds of ice a month through the Pine Belt.  Other suspects arrested include Reginald Pose of Collins; Lewis Mickell of Simpson County; Walter Price Jr. of Mt. Olive and Time Magee who is still at-large. All are charged with federal possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and conspiracy to distribute.

Ice has a street value of $2,100-an-ounce which equates to more than $8 million a month.   The drugs were being distributed mainly in Forrest, Lamar, Jeff Davis and Smith Counties.   Authorities also seized drugs and weapons from the residences.

This was a multi-agency sting that involved the FBI, DEA, ATF, MBI, MBN and U.S. Marshals along with the Covington County Sheriff's Office.  Authorities say more arrests are expected.
