PALMERS CROSSING, MS (WDAM) - Wednesday marked the third day of National Health Center Week and local officials were out celebrating the weeklong campaign.
The Southeast Mississippi Rural Health initiative held a press conference at the Hattiesburg Family Health Center in Palmers Crossing to celebrate the mission .
Assistant to the Mayor John Brown presented a proclamation to Interim CEO of South Mississippi Rural Health, Geroldane Dyse.
Dyse said this week is important because health centers are crucial to local communities, but they are also suffering in this economy.
"It is important for everyone to realize that community health centers are at stake with the economy, and to let their legislatures now how important it is that health centers stick around,"said Dyse.
The Hattiesburg Family Health Center is giving several free health screenings to the public this week.
