Police warn scrap metal theft growing

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - For thieves in Jones County scrap metal is a hot commodity.

Laurel Police Captain Tommy Cox said they have seen an increase of scrap metal theft over the past several months. Scrap metal cost anywhere from 13 cents  to 15 cents a pound and people are selling everything from tin to stolen farm equipment.

Cox said  most of these items are selling for pennies on the dollar.
