Lott edges out Fillingane by a slim margin of votes

PURVIS, MS (WDAM) -It took two court houses to count the results, handshakes, and hugs but its finally over.

"Both of us ran a good clean race. Both of ran hard," said Incumbent State Representative of District 101, Harvey Fillingane.  

Fillingane and opponent Hank Lott were at the Lamar County Court House Wednesday morning awaiting result of the race. Fillingane was trailing by a mere eight votes, when county officials were reviewing 62 affidavit ballots.

Right before noon county officials read the short report results: Harvey Fillingane 4,061 and Hank Lott 4,088

Fillingane quickly offered Lott a handshake, and there were embraces from not only Lott and Fillingane but from each others family.

"I congratulate Mr. Hank on a successful bid for District 101 House of Representatives Seat. I am sure he will serve the people well," said Fillingane.

After the Lamar County Court House it was off to the Forrest County Court House were ballots were still being counted, and Lott says he didn't want to claim victory.

"I would like to thank the Fillingane family, and their supporters for running an extremely clean race. It was an honor to run against Mr. Harvey. I think the world of him and his family. I liked to thank my supporters. They worked their tails off for me and I want to thank them," said Lott.

Forrest County Circuit Clerk's Office confirmed the Harvey Fillingane and Hank Lott race is over. Lott is now the new State Representative of District 101 by six votes.
