LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Lamar County businessman John Polk will represent the Republican Party in the District 44 Senate race in November. Polk defeated businessman Tim Ryan in Tuesday's primary election, taking 61 percent of the vote.
Polk and a large gathering of supporters watched the election returns at the Canebrake Clubhouse Tuesday evening.
He said if he wins the general election, he will focus on issues including welfare reform, illegal immigration, education and economic development.
"Senators Jim Bean and Tom King have really left us a legacy of excellent leadership and all I want to do is to continue that excellent legacy of leadership," said Polk. "I intend to do what's right for the people. They can always depend on me doing the right thing for them," Polk said.
He'll face Reform Party candidate Lajena Williams in the November general election.
