JACKSON, MS (WDAM)-Former Southern Miss coach Corky Palmer was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Friday night.
The Pine Belt baseball legend was a catcher at Hattiesburg High and Southern Miss, before coaching at Meridian Community College and 12 seasons with the Golden Eagles.
"It means, you know, I've spent a lot of time in the state, and some people felt like I was worthy of it. Very humbled of the honor," said Palmer. "You've got to give credit to your players and the assistant coaches along the way. Your administrators that backed you, without all that, you can't do it by yourself. They probably all need to get a piece of the pie for putting up with me for all those years"
Coach Palmer finished his coaching career with 963 wins and 493 losses. Plus a trip to the college world series in 2009.
