We end this week having gotten some good economic news for a change—at least for the Pine Belt. Day before yesterday, Governor Haley Barbour and GE Aviation CEO, David Joyce announced the company will locate a second manufacturing plant in Ellisville. GE Aviation will be manufacturing parts for jet engines and will create 250 jobs when it reaches full production. The 300,000 square foot plant represents an investment by the company of $56-million. This will be their second plant in Mississippi as they take advantage of Mississippi's Aerospace Initiative Incentives program. They have also partnered with Mississippi State, Ole Miss and USM to collaborate on research for technology and advanced material development . The Mississippi Development Authority worked with company and local officials including the City of Ellisville, Jones County and the Economic Development Authority of Jones County to help bring this all together. We congratulate all who were involved. It is getting more and more to the point where our bright young people can stay in the state and make a good living as more technological jobs find a home in Mississippi. That is very good news.
