Lamar County neighborhood floods...again

LAMAR CO.,MS (WDAM) -  The heavy rain had one Hattiesburg neighborhood battling a familiar problem.

The residents of 220 Rayburn Place, in Lamar County say their yard and home flooded again Monday. It's a problem they have dealt with for years.

According to Lamar County Emergency Management Director James Smith, the county is aware of past flooding problems on Rayburn Place, especially this residence.

Smith says in the past, the county bought homes in the area to help with the problem.  However, 220 Rayborn Place is a private residence and the county can't do anything on a private property.

Smith says unfortunately this home is in a low lying area. The county has looked at several options but have not come up with anything affordable or acceptable.

The Mississippi All-Stars wrapped up its third practice at Hattiesburg High school ahead of the 31st Mississippi/Alabama All-star game on Saturday at noon. Although Saturday’s contest at Southern Miss’ M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg is just an exhibition, the Mississippi players are taking it seriously.
