SMITH COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The shooting death of a Smith County woman by her husband has been ruled accidental.
Robert Rhodes was released after 36 hours of questioning in the death of Rita Rhodes. Sheriff Charlie Crumpton said Rhodes liked to shoot guns and Tuesday was firing across his pond. According to the sheriff, Rhodes thought his wife was at a relative's house but was across the pond 110 yards away.
She was shot in the neck and died at the scene. Crumpton says Rhodes never saw his wife.
